Visit to Kindergarten Class

I almost forgot that the parents had been invited into class after school on Thursday. The kindergarten kids were demonstrating what they had been learning. We were about to leave for swim practice on Thursday evening when my 6-year old asked me if we were going to school...Why would we go to school a this hour? I asked her...then I remembered. We made it just on time, and this is what we saw (my favourite part was watching her program a mouse to go from one place to another, photo #3):

March Break Fun

March break proved to be a nice break from homework, packing lunches, and after school activities. Instead, the girls attended morning ski school, got their hair cut one afternoon, and headed to Disney on Ice on Thursday after skiing. While they were sick with a virus at the beginning of the week, they bounced back quickly and had a successful and enjoyable week. Too bad their parents are now sick...

The Girls Build an Ice Castle

As part of Carnival Week, my 8 and 6 year-olds were asked to bring a colourful block of ice in a 2 L milk or juice carton. The request came only a few days ahead of time, so I found myself emptying out 2 milk cartons into some very large reusable water bottles. After rinsing them out, we filled them with water, and added a few drops of food colouring and a some sequins for an extra sparkle.

On Tuesday, they built their ice castle. One grade at a time headed outdoors. They passed their blocks to some helpful 6th year students who pieced together the castle. Once they placed their blocks, the children were also asked to find some snow for the mortar. Within 2 hours, the castle was completed, much too the delight of 400 school children.

Unfortunately the castle did not last long as above average temperatures quickly melted the ice blocks. Or fortunately for us, spring has arrived early!

When Did Our First-Born Grow up?

And just like that, our first born turned 8! It seems like such a grown-up age!

In addition to her joint school friends' party last week with her sister, we had a small dinner party on the actual date with extended family. She even designed her own cake,  which my sister turned into a delicious reality.

First Joint Birthday Party

Growing up, my parents often held joint parties for my older sister and I, as we are both born in July. Although my two older girls are both born in February, we have avoided celebrating their birthdays together. Yesterday, I made an exception. Up until now, we had only small celebrations with extended family. But last Friday was a Ped day at school, and I decided to throw a friends-only party. We booked side-by-side party rooms at a trampoline centre, and enjoyed 90 minutes of jumping before heading to the party rooms for food. A good time was had by all, and no serious injuries occurred! The girls had never received so many gifts, and enjoyed opening their cards and gifts, but they also took pride in handing out the loot bags that they had prepared...I haven't yet decided if this is the first of many such celebrations, or the one and only!

Looking Back

Every once in a while I look back...And here we were 4 years ago today. In our condo, just a little over one month before moving into our first house. Our then 31/2-year old feeding the baby while our two-year old sucked her thumb. Three kids in 3 1/2 years, how did we do it?!!!
